Embarking on a 4day trek in the M’goun region of the High Atlas Mountains offers a thrilling blend of culture and natural beauty. The journey starts with a drive from Marrakech to Aarouss Ikkis, where you begin your trek through the picturesque Arouss valley, arriving at the Ikiss pasture for your first camp. The second day involves a climb to the Aghri pass and continuing to the Tarkeddit plateau, where you’ll encounter nomadic families. On the third day, you trek through the lush Aït Bougmez valley, visiting traditional Berber villages and soaking in the local culture. The final day is dedicated to ascending Mount M’goun, the highest peak in the central High Atlas, offering breathtaking views before you return to Aarouss Ikkis. The trek includes camping in tents and is guided by experienced locals, ensuring a memorable and enriching experience. 

Itinarery

Day 1: Marrakech – The Happy Valley of Ait Bougmez – Azibs N’Ikkis (2300m).
Transfer to Azilal, the last town before taking a small road to the deep valleys of the central High Atlas, the Aït Abbas valley and the Happy Valley of Aït Bougmez by its first village Agouti we meet with the team of muleteers. Our trek to M’goun begins by crossing the beautiful Berber villages of the Arous valley with a typical adobe architecture. Night in tents near the sheepfolds of Arous at 2,500 m. 3 hours of walking. 700m of climbing.

Day 2: Azibs n’Ikkis (2300m) – Tarkeddit Pass (3400m) − Tarkeddit Plateau (2900m)
We go back up the mule track that takes us to the Au Tizi n’Oughri Pass (3400 m). Panoramic view of the vast northern slope of M’Goun, the Tarkeddit Plateau and the surrounding peaks. Then a 1h30 descent to our camp near the sources of the Tassaout (2900 m). In the afternoon, rest. Night in tents. Duration: 5H30 of walking. Elevation: 1050m ascent and 500m descent.

Day 3: Tarkeddit Plateau – The ascent of M’goun (4068 m) – Oulilimt (2700m)
Wake up around 4am, departure around 5am to join the long ridge line of Ighil M’Goun, which we will follow to the summit of M’goun (4,068 m). A beautiful view of the entire central High Atlas mountains and, to the south, the Dades Valley, the Sarhro Massif. After descending by the path in a corridor, to reach the camp near the Oulilimt sheepfolds (2,700 m. 9 hours of walking. 1,168 m of ascent and 1,368 m of descent. NB: for those who do not wish to climb the M’goun, it is possible to follow the path with the muleteers. Night in tents.

Day 4: Oulilimt (2,600m) – Ait Imi Pass 2,905 m – Ait Bougmez Valley – Transfer to Marrakech
We leave this region frequented by nomads with their families and their herds. We climb towards the Ait Imi Pass (2,905 m), Panoramic view from the Du Col, we enjoy a panoramic view of all the surrounding mountains and behind view of the Mgoun Massif, then the descent towards the Ait Imi source place for lunch in the shade, after the greeting of our muleteer team we take the transfer to Marrakech. 7h walk. 5h drive. 650m climb and 1000m descent
