up to the Tizi n'Tamatert (2279m) and continue through wheat and barley fields

and apple, cherry and walnut orchards until reaching the village of Tamatert.

From the village we hike a path leading up through pine and juniper woods,

stopping at the Tizi to admire the the Imlil and Imnane valleys. From the

Imnane Valley you can see many Berber villages tucked into the surrounding

slopes. Continuing along the upper valley slopes for another hour to the villages

of Ouanskra and Amagdoul, set amidst terraced slopes of land. Here we will

stop for a field picnic on the plateau, a favourite bivouac site during the summer.

We will spend the afternoon hiking for about 2 hours up through the valley, along

the mule trails until we reach Tachdirt (2291m), one of the oldest and prettiest villages

in the Toubkal massif, carved into the craggy slopes. Here we will spend the night at guesthouse

After an early breakfast we begin an approximately 6 hour hike southeast to

the terraced village of Timichi (1850m), at the western head of the Ourika Valley.

For 2 and a half hours we ascend slowly to the Tizi n'Tachdirth (3200m), which

will give us an amazing view of Jebel Aksoual (3842m) and Bouignouane (3882m)

on one side, and Angour on the other, the beautiful verdant valley stretching out

below us.

Traversing the pass and continuing down in a northeastern direction for another 2

hour hike until arriving at the village of Iaabbassen (2030m). Here we will stop for

a welcome field picnic beside a spring just outside the village. After lunch we

continue down the valley to the old village of Timichi, a picturesque cluster of

homes set in a grove of ancient nut trees. Here we will enjoy dinner and an overnights tay in a Berber family home.

After breakfast we set out for a 4-5 hour hike east along the luscious valley of corn and wheat fields,

nut groves and flowing streams. We will pass through the villages of Anfli and Tadrart, arriving at the end of the Ourika Valley and the famous village of Setti Fatma, with its nut tree groves and rushing waterfalls. We will stop for our picnic outside of the village before hiking another 30 minutest o return to the vehicle.

It is a great place to shop not too far from New York. We took the bus from Port Authority and traveled through the countryside to get there.
